Calvin Brings in The Food
I fixed breakfast honey

We were gone for almost a week. When we left the kestrels and bluebirds appeared to be nesting. Molly had rejected her suitor and was not spending much time in the owl box.

We are back home now. Molly has not been back in the box and we don’t expect her to show except occasionally until next mating season. The bluebirds decided it was too hot and they left too. That leaves Calvin and Caleigh the kestrels. Caleigh is definitely sitting on eggs. Wha-hooo!  And Calvin is bringing in the food…A lizard this morning.

No, we don’t have a camera on the Kestrel box and we won’t have one because Donna and I plan to be on the road again shortly. It is like Laveda said to me while we were in Bakersfield, “Live today like it is you last, because it just might be.” Who is Laveda? She lived next door when I was growing up. She and I were in the same school grade, she was like another sister.

One last thing. Isn’t it amazing how fast weeds can grow.

The Pflugerville, Pfestival  in Texas is underway and I got a report that it was going well. I hope they take some photos.  http://www.facebook.com/SkyviewVillage

All the best,

Carlos, Donna and Austin

Dear Carlos.. do you suppose that Molly decided that if you and Donna were gone that she wasn’t getting the proper amount of attention? She is used to being a STAR and is now not getting her proper share of exposure.. we all still love you Molly..

    • Jo-Ann Says:

I love your response… I tend to agree with you Joan…

    • carlosroyal Says:

I agree Molly is a star and loves the camera, but she also knows about over exposure so she is taking a break. Michel Jackson considered anything over 4 seconds in a 60 second commercial over exposure.

Ellie, the photos didn’t show up for me either when I arrived on this page, but Refreshing/Reloading made them appear for me. I think that they take a little extra time to load.

I wish you had an apartment building in San Diego!

  8. A Friend of M&M Says:

Oh Carlos, how great that the Kestrals are finally nesting. I wonder if they were not nesting when M&M were. But how marvelous that you have a new family to watch. We have blue birds, Titmouses and some other Robins nesting in my yard. I am having so much fun sitting in my backyard watching them bring food and listening to the babies squawk. Thanks for the update on Molly. The photos are awesome.

It is fun to watch nature. We love our backyard. It is entertainment you can’t buy.

      • A Friend of M&M Says:

It truly is. We also have hawks and Great Horn Owls nesting in our lower back yard and love the whooo whoo whoo in the early morning and sundown.

Wow, the picture of Caleigh make a BEAUTIFUL desktop background. I’ve replaced my tulips pic for Caleigh’s pic.
It is GREAT! Thank you for keep us “in the loop.” Youall are just like family to us mods, you know. And you know how we always are wondering about our relatives. :-)
We sure do love you, and Donna and Austin.
    Thanks again,

  11. CAequuslvr Says:

Carlos, appreciate the update. So happy that the Kestrels are nesting–finally. Glad to hear the Pfestival is going well.

I really liked the suggestion someone had of a billboard with Austin’s T-shirt design.

Laveda’s motto for living is an excellent one.

  12. Paula Bullinger Says:

Thanks for the great pictures and updates. I did make that picture my wallpaper and think of all of you and the whole Molly experience so fondly…such a wonderful, happy time in my life. Thank you so much.

I could spend all day in your backyard and never want to leave! There seems to be so much life and enjoyment right there; and relaxation too. All of the critters like Tauntz and the “get-away” mousey from the owlbox that one time; such fun memories and thanks to the updates new memories each time you send an update.

I saw a Kestrel awhile ago enjoying a lizard treat; got some good pictures although not nearly as good as yours. I guess they really like to eat lizards. They must be really fast to catch them. I try and they scatter away too quick!

Thank you so much for the updates. Enjoy the weekend and your travels.

  14. Sue Couch Says:

How great to see and hear about the kestrel goings-on. As for Miss Molly. I think she misses her audience! After all the physicists say the observer alters reality. Have fun on your travels. Thanks for keeping us up to date.

  15. Donna Says:

Carlos, I love hearing what’s going on in your lives and in your back yard too! Thank you for the updates

  16. carlosroyal Says:

If you want to see more, you have to watch more. That is the key to watching nature in your backyard. All you need is comfortable chair, a little shade, and a cold glass of iced tea. Kick back, relax, and keep your eyes open.

  17. Cynthia Bradley (bradleytwins) Says:

I think that Molly thinks if Carlos and Donna can take time for vacations she may as well too!!! Thanks for the updates Carlos…it makes us all still feel connected to one another and to Molly and the Royals especially!!

  18. monkie Says:

Thank you Carlos for another wonderful update, and enjoying your travels.. I watch my little hummer in the morning and evening, so happy she is back, and of course the finches and grosbeaks. First time the grosbeak is here in my yard..
Of course, a big thank you for the update on Molly, i am sure she is looking for the perfect mate.. McGee was one of a kind.
    Hugz to the Royals

May 20, 2011 – Ustream recording of “Day 91 Owlets Return 11:30 pm”
    http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/14848941

In this recording from last year, you will see a great night view of the owlets of the Third Clutch cavorting inside, outside and around the Owl Box in the Royal Gardens. There are also some short clips of Molly Memorabilia, clips of the Molly Songs and more treats inserted! One owlet sounds “squeaky” calling for food – must want a squeaky treat!

Each night the question was, “Will they be back?” and we now know the answer was most definitely, “Owl be back!”

Carlos did not post a blog entry on this day last year, but tomorrow and all the following days, get ready for more great photos and descriptive reports – and there are thousands of Ustream recordings to watch, thanks to Carlos and Austin!
