    December 21, 2010 – All Things Owl

Even as busy as the Royals were during this time last year, Carlos posted a wonderful photo sent to him by Lynn and Tom Meadows. With warm wishes they write, “We have enjoyed watching Molly & McGee and their children the past 8 months! We are owl collectors of over 40 years. Here is a photo of our Christmas tree for 2010 with 422 owl ornaments on it.” There is more to the letter, but you have to read it from the link, and of course, you will want to see that amazing bejeweled tree!

I personally hope that Owl Box watchers with a 2011 Howliday photo to share will post a link! The only links that don’t work in the comments section are embedded ones, so unless things have changed, Carlos requested that we don’t post videos (except Ustream) since they crash iPhones, iPads and other new mobile devices. And always, the main subject should be related to The Owl Box!

Hmmm … Eight MODs A-Chatting … I am sure they are also taking screenshots and photos, too! Eight … hmmmm … more like 8 hundred, 8 thousand, 8 hundred thousand, at least 8 million or more MODs A-Chatting, A-Screenshoting, A-Learning, A-Sharing, A-Caring, A-Imagining, A-Creating, A-Volunteering, etc. MODs make the world a better place for all!

I wonder if “Certified MOD For Life!” is an example of that “Irresistible Force” paradox!

Hundon, one of our beloved MODs from the UK, was a also a moderator and chatter on the Oceanside (CA) Owl Box Ustream site. She took one of the most amazing live screenshots in March of 2011, which makes me think of the holidays!

“Matilda’s Fluffy Tutu” is a real moment in time and not photoshopped. Hundon captured this screenshot of eldest wild common barn owlet, Matilda, surrounded by her sibling owlets, while the parents were away. Hundon, like many owl box watchers, learned how to take screenshots while watching owl boxes on Ustream. She clicked that screenshot button at the perfect moment and posted it for all to enjoy on Flickr!

December 22, 2010 – Count Downs Are On

Clever Carlos counts down the December days in this blog entry to all sorts of fun events of the 2010 Howlidays!

This time last year, swirling Pacific winds and San Marcos zephers carried blankets of rain-filled cumulonimbus clouds, which Carlos characterized as “dumping” rain on the Royal Gardens! (Note: The Cloudspotter’s Guide is a great book – http://cloudappreciationsociety.org/cloudspotters-guide/)

This year in 2011, Molly and McGee and family have sunny Southern California skies for howliday hunting and “deet, deet, deeting”! Perhaps they are visiting their own grandowlets from the First Clutch!

Here are some clues to another December countdown from last year – Ashley, the Royal granddaughter (not the owlet), bells and a 2011 one-year anniversary!

This year, the countdowns continue with our new 2011 treat provided by Molly the Owl illustrator, logo creator, and webmaster Chris Adams, which is just full of surprises …. Let’s see – four more days left in our countdown of the “12 Days of Molly!” So much fun to look forward to!

What better way to end the year than with a shout out of “Gee this is fun, and we are a part of it!”

December 23, 2010 – Wedding Tent Goes Up

Another clue to Ashley, the Royal granddaughter’s Count Down! While you are also wondering what Ashley, the Second Clutch Owl is up to, you might wonder if she might have a “Spencer” in her own new “Home, Sweet Home” – and if she stowed away on a cruise to Hawaii to find him. Little Hawaiian barn owlets might be singing their own Christmas Carowls right now – awwww, the romance!

Here is another stocking stuffer – an interesting article with photos from the State of Hawaii about owls in the island chain; a comparison of the introduced common barn owl and the endangered Hawaiian owl (pueo).

    Mele Kalikimaka!

    Twelve Days of Christmas Tradition

I was not sure if we would get all 12 Days of Molly before Christmas, so I looked up the tradition on Wikipedia and was reminded as follows:

“The Twelve Days of Christmas are the festive days beginning Christmas Day (25 December). This period is also known as Christmastide and Twelvetide. The Twelfth Night of Christmas is always on the evening of 5 January, but the Twelfth Day can either precede or follow the Twelfth Night”

So, you see, our Owl Box Howlidays will continue through the New Year, up to or through January 6th, 2012! Yippee!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Remembering Kwanza, Festivus with the Rest of Us, or in your own Howliday traditions – a time for remembering, awareness, and practicing community celebrations and family traditions sprinkled with kindness, sharing, and “To You’s With Love”.

    December 24, 2011 – A Visit from Saint Nicholas

Have fun listening to an inspired reading of this classic poem, also known as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’! Zorro (in his jammies and night cap) mezmerizes fans with his unique stage style, accompanied by a live action VacaFoleyArteest, VacaSoundEngineer and ZorroCostumeDesigner, the VacaDude (aka John Atkinson), himself!

A brand new howliday cartoon by VacaDude is revealed of an ‘adowlable’ Christmas owlet! And a fashion photo of Zorro in his Howliday Red and Green Christmas costume, made with love by chatter Sally from Australia!

Anyone not familiar with “Who’s Who” in The Owl Box world can download the free Owl Box Lexicon from the Molly the Owl Cafe Press site, print it out and put that under your tree or right next to your computer for easy reference (there is a Second Edition)!

  10. Jessica Says:

    Hi Carlos and Donna,

My husband bought me an owl box (and infrared video camera) for christmas. I wasn’t sure what it was and once I realized what it was I started tearing up, and then he did after I finally had tears streaming down my eyes. Thanks for giving me so much happiness the past couple years watching the owls. I cannot wait for my own owl family to move in. Let Molly and McGee’s kids know there will be a box ready for them soon in San Diego. ;-)

December 26, 2010 – Wedding Plus After Christmas Sale

Carlos posts a gorgeous photo of the couple, Spencer and Ashley, and reports, “Today is the big day. Ashley and Spencer will be getting married and it looks like it is not going rain. The weather is clearing up. Austin and I got new cameras so look for photos tomorrow, if we can figure out how to make them work.”

Happy Anniversary – First one is, let’s see. Paper! A new 2012 calendar or framed print from Molly’s Cafe Press or VacaDude’s cartoon calendar with “You Never Forget Your First Love” will do just fine!

  12. prettyrose44 Says:

PegRod I hope you are right about the last days of Christmas because I have only gotten 8 days of Christmas and Christmas was yesterday. I sure hope the remaining 4 are still coming!

    • PegRod Says:

Yes, I believe so, 4 more days of fun to look forward to for the 12 Days of Molly will come after the Christmas and Hannukah and holiday intermissions which allowed our Molly’s Box Blog hosts to spend quality time with their immediate nuclear families and friends.

(Music notes – think of Gilbert and Sullivan) They Sail the Ocean Blue, Christmas in the Caribbean, our Royal Folks are True, and our Rocketman Delivers!

Explanatory Note: Rocketman = Chris Adams = at home in New England while the Royals = Carlos and Donna are on a 50 year-delayed honeymoon visiting the Caribbean for the first time!

    December 29, 2010 – Wedding Photos

Last year, tomorrow, MODs got a real post-Christmas treat of some of the most beautiful wedding photos of Ashley and Spencer’s wedding. There are close to 100 comments to read or revisit, to keep us entertained while waiting for the “9th Day of Molly”.

Here is a happiness framework to ponder from author Gretchen Rubin:

“There are four stages for enjoying a happy event:
    — anticipation (looking forward to it)
    — savoring (enjoying it in the moment – remember to turn off your cell phone!)
    — expression (sharing your pleasure with others, to heighten your experience)
    — reflection (looking back on happy times – which is why it may be a good idea to take pictures, keep a one-sentence journal, collect mementos, etc.)”

That sounds like an Owl Box philosophy for living Molly’s Motto of “Gee that was fun, and I was a part of it!” or the present-tense version of “Gee this is fun, and we are a part of it!” or even the “Gee, I believe the next one will be fun, and we will be part of it! I can’t wait to see what it is!”

    …. anticipating the next surprise!

    July 22, 2010 – Carlos Royal

You have heard of Christmas in July, well here is a howliday treat of “July in Christmas” season. Many fans love to hear Carlos report on the Owl Box, including his observations about Molly and McGee, about Austin’s then new First Clutch DVD, and hearing him read and respond to live chat!

Intermission on 12 Days of Molly

How about a Christmas in June memory! MODs were delighted when Carlos Royal turned on the broadcast cameras so MODs suffering from empty nest could watch a Royal Garden bluebird family in June 2011! There are some great photos here, including the final one of three very cute and charming owlets trying to look like bluebirds hiding in a box!

Every day throughout the year provides the joy of discovery – you just have to open your eyes and quiet the relentless ear worm thoughts and noise to see it! The Owl Box of San Marcos opened many eyes to see and hear what was right there in their own communities all the time – owls!

  17. PegRod Says:

Ustream (which facilitated our watching The Owl Box and all the recordings!) has “EarthCam” for watching the 2012 New Year’s Celbration from Times Square in New York City. It appears to have both a Social Stream and a live chat (not many people there now).

An opportunity to celebrate New Year’s in live chat with owl watchin’ friends (M&M, M&S, O&O, PPO, etc.) in live chat on Ustream here … and to maybe set the tone for friendliness.

    • PegRod Says:

My favorite gift I got this year besides my Molly the Owl charm bracelet (so sweet and charming!), was to find “1 Giant Leap” and get the DVD! I started watching clips of it on YouTube – Happiness, Inspiration, Grace and more – Molly the Owl united the world and this is a world music/humanity UK project from about 10 years ago which I had never heard of – fantastic like Molly!

What did you get that you would like to share?

What are your wishes for 2012?

Happy New Year 2012 to All!

Hi… FYI for owl fans, looks like Roy & Dale are back on UStream (chat there, too): http://www.ustream.tv/owlchannel

    • PegRod Says:

      ao Thank you!

When I looked in just now, Dale was preening Roy, and the sun is rising, so these Chula Vista, California wild common barn owls look like they might stay home for the day instead of watching, from a roosting spot on nearbye palm and eucalyptus trees, the local and tourist beach-goers sun, surf, and sail on those inviting sandy spots! Southern California is having a summer heat wave! I wonder how the owlet offspring are – anyone want to list the names, or report on any sightings for owl fans?

  21. ao Says:

One more… Mel (of Mel & Syd) is back! On Ustream, with chat:

    Molly & McGee got the band rolling… Hope they’re well & (F)LHAPPY!!!
