Because You Ask For It

November 15, 2011

So many of you ask for Austin’s design on a tote bag so here it is. Now, you have a tote bag to match your Designer T-Shirt.

Tote Bag designed by world famous Austin Faure

Last night McGee spent the night alone in The Owl Box and left off early this morning. Then just before daylight Molly came dashing in to spend the day. We think it is still too early for bonding.

When carlos shut the cams off the last time he said that he would never open the cams again for us to see. It takes up to much of his time. It’s alot of work to keep the cams working and I don’t blame carlos for not doing it again.

There is a saying – The past is history (“Gee that was fun, and I was a part of it!”), the future is a mystery (we don’t know what will happen, so wait and observe), and the Present is the Present (a free gift to open and share with others)

    November 16, 2010 – DVD Sale Extended
    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/2010/11/16/dvd-sale-extended-1-day/#comments

Several classic photos appear in this blog entry, including one of last year’s free howliday ornaments printed out, cut out with safe scissors, and put together by Carlos and Donna with Elmer’s glue, a glue stick, and mounted on close-prins to clip onto the tree. They wanted to show it could be done by children of all ages!

I also love the white paper cut out snowflakes (a fun activity for kids) on a San Diego (ahem, San Marcos) sky blue background, which frame Austin’s DVD. We had no idea at that time that his documentary would havae a classic sequel in 2011 offering a view of the outside world of our beloved owls!

Guess what photos accompany this report from Carlos? – “It seems both the owlets and the kestrels like the ladders when fledging. That is a young kestrel that was fledging.”

Awww …. the memories …. Max, you are so clever and resourceful!

Other “Because You Ask for It!” gifts were the Owl Box fabrics designed by VacaDude on Spoonflower. Maybe Austin and Chris Adams will put some of their designs on Spoonflower for quilters and others to enjoy!

November 17, 2010 – Vote Molly Bird of the Year
    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/2010/11/17/vote-molly-bird-of-the-year/

This will bring back powerful memories of how grassroots movements can work – the phrase “Pass the Word” and a call to action made the impossible, possible! Although the common barn owl eventually was voted Audubon California Bird of the Year with a write-in vote (not on the ballot), MODs all know that the vote was for our beloved Molly!

Take a moment, if you can, and watch the “Vote Molly” video again, which is found on YouTube. You might also want to watch some selected “Molly Videos” right here on this site. The print of the index is hard to see, being in white letters on a light grey background, but it is found just to the right of this column near the top of the page, under the heading in black “Molly’s Pages”.

Google Earth – San Diego Tour

Last night, on his regular Thursday evening show at 6:00 pm PDT, John “VacaDude” presented MODs with a requested Google Earth tour of the San Diego region and sights to see, including the college where Austin Faure is earning his A+’s! The new feature, Poetry Time with Zorro, includes a reading of Longfellow’s “A Song of Life” at 20:00 followed by the Google tour. Thanksgiving Thursday will a day of rest, so no show.

Sunday’s Story Time was “The Owlets Want to Be Cowboys” – what a hoot! Virtual Owlets, Vinky and Vobble dream up adventures you can not even imagine! Get ready for “Zorro Takes a Road Trip” and join writing fun this coming Sunday at 3:00 pm PDT. Be prepared for silliness, fun and exercising those brain cells – you can take your time to make up the story when it is your turn, but you may awaken dormant brain cells you didn’t even know you had!

  30. Madonna Varchetto-Bonner Says:

Carlos, thanks for the recent pics of M&M. They are so beautiful. I think of them everyday. Just this afternoon I got my 2nd clutch book out and it brought back warm feelings, on this cold day in WV. I know a few say the past is the past, but I can not forget them, M&M will forever be in my heart. We all watched, chatted, laughed and cried. Ones that were alone had instant families…M&M and the Royals. We bought items to remind us of M&M. It is hard not to want you to turn on the cameras again. Not trying to be selfish, but I think you enjoyed it too. T
he world fell in love with M&M and the Royals. So you see, it is hard for us not to want the cameras back on. We know it was hard work …but look at all the good that has come from a box, 2 owls, and a loving…Royal… family! Happy Thanksgiving to the Royals and to M&M, all of you have brought so many Blessings to all of us! Love, Madonna

    November 19, 2011 – Posing Ledge Falls …
    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/2010/11/19/posing-ledge-falls-dvd-shipments-delayed-2-weeks/

This is an interesting bit of Owl Box history, along with some great photos as well as a fabulous black and white

Carlos begins, “Last night shortly after 6 PM, Molly and McGee were landing on the photo posing ledge when it fell. No injuries were reported because they are birds and they just lifted off as it dropped off beneath them.”

Always resourceful, and with a positive outlook, Carlos posted a photo he created from one whose lighting was dim. He reports, “Roark the Red-shouldered hawk has been visiting our yard almost daily feasting on grubs and calling for a mate from the highest point, the weathervane. The lighting was not good but as you can see I had fun with the photos anyway.”

That photographer knows how to appreciate unrealized potential and to be patient. I imagine that while he was waiting for what he imagined to be the “perfect photo”, he came up with an ever better idea with one that is right before his eyes! “Roark on the Weathervane” is a stunning high contrast of white on black on weathervane!

Watching Molly and McGee raise their owlets in The Owl Box of San Marcos on Ustream gave many people time to slow down the high speed thinking of keeping up with daily modern living, and to allow space for their imagination and the creative spirit to grow.

November 20, 2010 – Cameras Go Off Tonight
    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/cameras-go-off-tonight/

This time last year, Carlos reports (among many other updates), “Although it appears that Molly and McGee are mating/bonding, they are still both leaving the box in the day time. There are no views of the inside of the owl box because that computer has horked completely. The outside cameras go off tonight at 9 PM as Donna and I get ready for our travels.”

With 75 comments posted, there is much to enjoy and reminisce about, with a cup of Mollly Mocha in hand – you can still buy “The Molly Watcher’s E-Cookbook” with the recipe. It may be the last book listed, but it is the longest with over 1000 recipes contributed by fans and with illustrations from VacaDude!
    http://mollytheowlbooks.com/store/books-bookmarks/

Carlos posts a link to a video recording, so fans could savor those last looks as they waved adieu and were sure they heard Molly (or it could have been McGee) saying, “So long folks …. (winking) Owl be Back!”
