All Molly Songs LIVE on iTunes

October 1, 2011

Click for iTunes download!

All four Molly songs are now available on iTunes! We would like to once again thank Barbara Allen for all the fun she has shared with everyone who watched. It’s hard to imagine Molly and the family without the songs that so flawlessly capture the mood, excitement and overall experiences the owl box had to offer. You can now keep the great memories fresh by having your very own Molly Songs available to play anytime you like!

The Molly Song – Molly was a Common Barn Owl, as common as she could be (it’s true). Nevertheless, through the miracle of technology and the Internet “Molly” and her mate “McGee” inspired a worldwide sensation unlike any other in its time. Broadcast via webcam on, people were able to witness wild owls raising multiple clutches of highly amusing owlets over the course of many months. The natural adventures of the two barn owls captured the attention of millions, including children in classrooms across the United States. One of the owlets – Pattison – was named after the first school to participate in a Skyped information session with the gracious broadcast host, Carlos Royal of San Marcos, California.

Creatures rearing young in the wild is not new, nor is it unexpected. However, an opportunity to witness events of nature in partnership with millions of other people IS new. This is why a little owl named Molly became so important; just by being her natural self, she inspired people to care about the world around.

(iTunes download)

Molly Was Her Name – This is a song about a real-life, wild barn owl that had no idea she was important to so many. As she raised her second clutch of owlets, the world eagerly watched via webcam while awaiting their first flights and subsequent move into the world beyond.

(iTunes download)

Wesley’s Lesson – A beloved San Marcos, California barn owl named Wesley was the inspiration for this third song in a series. It is a musical tribute to the classic struggle of “getting off your duff” and making headway in the world. Encouragement helps, but sometimes you just need guts!

(iTunes download)

I’m Comin’ Around – This fourth song about the barn owls Molly and McGee is written from Molly’s perspective, reminding all that there is never an end to the cycle of life. Even when an owlet successfully fledges, it may just come around again.

Be Sure To rate them 5 stars! (Without even signing in!)

Please not only rate these songs but also write a review. You can do both without buying the songs if you already own them. Let’s give Barbara and her songs our maximum support. If the songs get enough clicks and ratings they could show up on the front page of iTunes and “Gee, wouldn’t that be great!”

If you would rather pay by mailing a check or credit card without the use of iTunes you can go to to this link to buy them through CD Baby:

Emails Won’t Open?

Several people have indicated that their emails from us are coming in blank within the past few days (we were one of the many). It turns out the email is not actually blank, but due to service providers saving space / load-time they disable content in larger emails (unless told otherwise). The solution for most seems to scrolling to the bottom of the email to look for a link that says “Show full email” or something similar.

I would so be buying these songs if I didn’t already own all of them, plus Barbara’s children’s songs (which I LOVE).
I still cry (mostly) happy tears over all the Molly songs.

Modern Tecnology is changing so quickly that it is hard to keep up. Each of these Molly “album” covers with unique photographs are displayed in your iTunes music file, once you download the songs and choose that view. I love these photos, too, which are worth the 99 cents to support the Barbara Allen music even if you already have the mp3 files or her CD. You have to download the iTunes software on to your computer, which has multiple features. It never hurts to have a back-up, and one nice feature of iTunes is that they maintain all purchase files, so if your computer crashes you can restore your files. Also, there is something called “Home Sharing” so that more than one computer, iPod, or iPad, etc., at home can share the music, for example, if you want to share with your children.

Maybe this technology is not for everyone, but worth supporting and to learn something new – just under $4.00 for four great songs! Thank you Carlos, Donna, Austin and Barbara for the nice summary paragraphs for each song, too.

This album cover for the Molly Song is my personal favorite. I will always remember the excitement of fans when they heard this song for the first time in 2010. Lyrics are found on this website in a previous entry.

All four Barbara Allen Molly songs are lovable and unique, as is BugGirl’s “Ode to Molly’s Owlets”, Musique2’s “Molly Bobble”, and VacaDude’s “The Owl Box Rockz” – Molly’s Motto reminds us of those memories, “Gee that was fun, and I was a part of it!”

  3. Carlos,

I don’t do ITunes, but if there is a way, would love to rate it with the 5 stars since I have heard them. Can you tell us how to do that?

Yes, just go to Iturnes type in Barbara Allen and her songs will show up, then click on five stars. That’s it, it is that easy.

  4. Becky Says:

Gosh, I LOVE the Barbara Allen songs but I’m not sure I can do them justice w/o chatroom for backup singing.I had such visions of all of us tapping along and chair dancing and singing while at our computers. That was a happy time.

  5. Kate Says:

I bought all four of Barbara’s “Molly Songs” tonight and have been listening to them ever since. Her music carries me away to a happy place and leaves a smile on my face. Thank-You, Barbara Allen.

October 2, 2010 – Carrie Steps Out Morning of Day 56

Fourteen magnificent photos tell a “slide show story” of events of the night. The photos of Ashley and Carrie, side-by-side, are adorable, and the ones of Molly and MGee focussed on feeding their growing “young’uns” illustrate just how hard they worked!.

  7. Barbara Allen’s songs are great for kids and for those who just want to feel like a kid again.

  8. steve Says:

we purchased all the songs for our three children

  9. steve Says:

I purchased all the songs for my 3 daughters and they have not stopped playingg the songs.

October 4, 2010 – Ashley Missed Landing Does Not Return

Lots of excitement this time last year, like watching a human baby reach one of its first milestones. But also drama. More excellent photos reveal some of the story as Carlos says, “Both Ashley and Carrie were out of the box last night. Ashley flew over to the landing pad twice. The second time when she tried to return she missed the landing and did not return. More than likely she in hiding under a bush or roosting in a near by tree. We will see if she returns tonight? We will start looking for Ashley around 6:30 PM PDT or as soon as it gets dark.”

    October 4, 2010 – Will Ashley Return?

More photos from this exciting night, ending with a classic entitled “My Wings Will Carry Me”.

Also, the announcement of the 2nd Edition of The Official Owl Box Lexicon via a photo/link! DotRot and other volunteers really worked hard to record the growing Owl Box vocabulary created by the human chat room! This is one of the many free pdfs created with the help of Chris Adams (rocketman) and Carlos Royal. I suggest that you download it and maybe even study it, in case there is a Molly and McGee Fourth Clutch in January 2012 – you will understand what some of the chat room is talking about since it is not a secret language if you have the “decoder”, and get ready to create new words yourself! A direct links is also here.

Africam Potted Plant Owl Mama and Papa (PPO) are now proud parents of a potted plant owlet (a special second floor balcony breed in Johannesburg, South Africa – lol)! If you want someone to sing the Molly songs to, tune in and imagine that the new little Spotted Eagle Owl owlets hear your voice along with the inspiring lyrics! Isn’t Ustream tv great! A total of three owlets are expected to hatch this week.

    • PegRod Says:

PPO Update – Owl Box moderator, screenshot photographer, and beloved chatter from the United Kingdom, aka “hundon”, continues to take and share great screenshots. The following link shows a moment from today in South Africa, where Pappa PPO sits on the edge of the potted plant nest with a “king cricket” dessert delivery. Chatters imagined that Mama PPO told him that he could keep it, since the first unidentified delicious treat he delivered (one chatter called a Tiramasaur, to include the discussion about the dessert named tiramisu) was big enough to feed the two growing owlets and herself for the time being. Papa flew off with cricket in mouth – Gulp! Hatch watch for egglet #3 is still on.

    October 5, 2010 – Ashley Returns!

Whew, what a relief that was! Carlos put it so well, in a picture of words, when he posted, “Ashley returned like a rock from heaven last night as she dropped in on top of the box with a thud, the chatroom and Social Stream went nuts with cheers of relief.” Great photos, too!

    Ashley Learns to Fly

There are a series of Owl Box recordings which not a lot of people have seen, probably because they don’t know how to access them. The outside view recordings from Clutch 1 and Clutch 2 are found under key word “donnaroyal”. For example, the following link shows a series of recordings of Ashley learning to fly! But the specific one of “Ashley Returns” has been viewed over 8,000 times. This particular clip is a short recording of just over 4 minutes. The rest around that time are here.

    October 7, 2010 – Ashley Takes Off, Carrie’s Out

Two outside the box photos are posted of Ashley exercising her newly-found flight, while Carrie observes and tells herself, “I think I can, I think I can…”

Carlos ends his blog entry with brief but monumental news, “We will be out all day signing your books”. He is referring to the signing of the Molly the Owl book by Carlos, Eric, Chris and Donna. This must-have book for fans is the true story of the First Clutch of Molly and McGee, and is a book for all ages, written by Eric Blehm and illustrated by Chris Adams, I will look for a photo link of the book signing, but if anyone else has some, please post!

Carlos told us about how important it was to him that all the autographs on Molly the Owl books were real, having received an anticipated autograph from an author, only to receive a “stamped” impression, which indeed left a lasting impression to never do that himself!.

    • PegRod Says:

I found one photo of Eric and Chris at the signing so far, but I know there are more photos – wait, they are all here, just go to “Actions” at top of photo, click with mouse (not Zorro), and choose “view slideshow” or just scroll to next photo, etc. This link is found in moderator and chatter “Caboval”‘s collection – lot of treasures found here! She is one of many faithful volunteers in the Owl Box Brigade and has helped with many book mailing events I believe!

So Great to have all 4 songs on my Ipod … Great work out music and lots of people at the gym have asked to listen !!

My next question is …. Carlos is there going to be a new calendar for 2012 ? Starting my Christmas shopping and trying to ” figger out ” my stocking stuffers !!!!!

    • carlosroyal Says:

Yes, I am working on photo selection this week. My computer has been in the repair shop. I lost all my emails and my data base to viruses. Computer had to wiped clean and yes I had virus protection program, it just did not do the job.

      • PegRod Says:

Sorry to hear that, Carlos – I was told that only brilliant hackers can do that.

This year, I also learned during the late summer 2011 huge Power Outage – in San Diego County in Southern California to points north near Los Angeles, to points south in Baja Mexico and east to Yuma, Arizona – that Power Surge strips, which I thought protected during power surges, do not work if you leave your appliances in the “on” position when the power goes out (the news reported a number of people with “fried” computers who had to make an unexpected trip to Fry’s to purchase new equipment!). You probably know all this, but for others who don’t, be sure to unplug everything in these situations from wall sockets and turn off your air conditioning/heating until full power returns!

October 8, 2010 – Carrie Gets Her Share

A wonderful series of photos by Carlos appear on this day last year (as every day!) following the lives and times of Molly and McGee teaching their growing Second Clutch owlets, Ashley and Carrie, to “think outside the box” and consider a short visit to the Royal Palmz, a great place to pose for Celebrowlty Photoz! By the way, I am still waiting to see Molly on the Cover of the Rolling Stone magazine celebrating her status as a muse of musical creativity and terpsichorean computer chair delights!

I love the photo captions from “Come To The Palm Tree Kids” to “Meal Time” (great wingz and treatz shot) to “Carrie Eating Captain Hook” (soon to become Captain Horked) to “Should I Jump”. Carlos Royal has many talents, which luckily he shares with us!

October 9, 2010 – McGee in Palm Tree

The blog heading is also the caption under the first photo posted. MODs love these rare photos because they give a perspective on how one or more barn owls fit on a palm tree branch! The first paragraph ends with the report, “Carrie did spend more time out of the box but still has not moved off the porch.”

McGee appeared to prefer palm trees (Arecaceae). He spent many guard duty nights and days during the first and second clutches in palms, in between hunting and deliveries, rather than staying inside or outside the immediate Owl Box structure (Fling & Fly).

But, Donna’s magical pink-blossoming mimosa tree in the Royal Gardens will always remain dear to certain songbirds and owners of the Magic Feather Memorabilia!

Finally, Carlos reports, “The first shipment of Molly The Owl Book was shipped yesterday as we will continue to sign books over the weekend.” Datz A Lot Owl Books! Over the weekend, Austin Faure signed some of the books, too, I think. At least one person got a special book signed with a talon print from Molly or McGee, if I remember correctly.

October 11, 2010 – Carrie Makes It To Landing Pad

Maybe Carrie was thinking like a “owlicopter” as she took that leap of faith from above, hovered briefly, and touched down on the landing pad. As Carlos notes, “Carrie finally got off the porch and flew down to the landing pad. Wow, one giant leap for owlkind.” The caption on the last photo here says it all, “Look At Me Now”.

Less than a century ago, people were thrilled with View-Masters and stereoscopic sightseeing. I can imagine these photos being just as exciting to that generation (and with English subtitles to translate owlet thoughts). We get live broadcasts on top of it!

All names for parts of the owl box and the playground that developed from moments of inspiration by Carlos and the chatters during the First Clutch experience, with some added later – knotty, porch, fledge ledge, posing ledge, landing pad and more (check the Owl Box Lexicon to find them all). The owl box additions developed over time, initially from a response by Carlos to the “worrywarts” expressing dismay that the owlets were so small and the box was so high, and how could they branch, or get back up if they fell, etc.

Carlos Royal became/becomes inspired with new ideas all the time, part of which made it so fun to watch this special owl box!

  20. PegRod Says:

Owl Watchers, including MODs, are watching and chatting at the Africam Potted Plant Owl (PPO) channel on Ustream, while two young owlets grow and an unhatched egglet, named Shelly, keeps them company. Here is a link to some more great photos by EmmieJan.

    October 12, 2010 – Cariie Can Fly

The photo diary for the nightly aerial and earthly adventures of Ashley and Carrie last year reveals one of the most dramatic evenings for the owlets and chatters alike! Until Carlos posted these photos, we did not really know what had happened to Ashley and Cariie as they disappeared out of live broadcast view.

Carlos expands our view of these amazing photographs, each capturing a significant moment from that night, by adding humorous, imaginative and descriptive captions.

  23. PegRod Says:

Chatter “littleguys” is beloved by many for keeping fans up-to-date with emails from the Molly Support Group, including reminders about Molly Watcher get-togethers, such as the monthly meetups at the Elephant Bar restaurant in San Marcos, California (ruthrings ringleader of “The Friendship of the Wingz”).

Littleguys has just shared information about an upcoming crepuscular event on Oct 22nd at the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in the City of Poway, California called the “Hoot, Howl, and Prowl”. Of course, MODs know to tune their minds into the sounds of “Deet, Deet, Deet” for Poway area barn owl families on the hunt.

Although this sale was from last year, Carlos said in a recent comment that he is working on a 2012 calendar for the upcoming year! Some people just buy the 2011 calendars for the memorable and amazing photographs – each suitable for framing.

Although this sale is from last year, there are delightful moments captured in photographs to enjoy as well. My favorite here has the caption “(Carrie) I’m Jumping In With Both Feet”!

There is always much to learn and enjoy by reading all the comments from last year as well. This is also a unique place to find what some of the “watchers” were thinking and sharing in the blog versus the live chat room.

October 14, 2010 – Ashley Fledged Carrie Alone in The Owl Box

Carrie may have appeared to be alone in The Owl Box, but thousands of MODs were there with her watching live and chatting, so she wasn’t! She might have noticed Glowz (owl box spider) spinning her webz and perhaps laying her own clutch of eggs (spider’s eggs are also called clutches!). Or she might have had a mite or two trying to get through that beautiful growing feather cloak; or an errant honey bee might have flown in (Carlos raises bees); a flyz was probably on the wall investigating horks and URPs (unidentified rodent parts), and bacteria was there working in the box and in her biological system “doing their thing”. Perhaps she was unaware that each was doing their part to balance nature.

On top of the owl box, vistors were coming and going, such as Carrie the kestrel with a sagebrush lizard meal in her talons, or Mockz the mockingbird preening or surveying the Royal gardens, or defending her turf from Roark the red-tailed hawk. In the distance, Gary, the Cooper’s Hawk, might have been perched on a treetop, looking for a tasty meal to emerge from somewhere. The bluebirds might have been flitting about, from the Mister (misting system) to the photo posing ledge and porch, peeking in to see “Whoooooz in there?”, while thinking about starting their own families in the Royal Bluebird Box, which we got to see later! The list goes on and on.

In fact, neither Carrie nor any creature on Earth is ever alone, no matter how alone we might perceive ourselves to be. Look around and see just how much life is around, from the unseen and unknown people in your own personal universe, to the very tiny, tiny, tiny, microscopic life doing their work to keep your world in balance everyday! Even dust mites have a purpose.

During these halcyon days (for the barn owls) and nights of early autumn in San Marcos, California, Carlos Royal was ever present, capturing great photos outside the owl box, and thousands of screenshots were being taken inside the owl box by watchers worldwide. Everyone involved was doing their part, working hard, but enjoying ever minute!

The first Royal photo on this blog entry from last year has the caption, “Ashley Takes First Treat” – she got the first one that night, a tasty treat delivered by Molly or McGee, which she held onto tightly while balanced on the ledge. She probably took it to the landing pad to “unzip” – archived Ustream recordings would show what happened. During the First Clutch records were kept by devoted watchers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and compiled by chatters Cowliflower, Ethger and TwoCatsMom. Check out the data sometime – it is fascinating – volunteers make this world a better place! The pdf is right here on the blog!

“Gee this is fun, and we are a part of it!” Molly’s Motto lives on if you want it to. By the way, if you did not get an email from Eric Blehm, you need to go to Molly the Owl Books and sign up for his newsletter in the “Contact” section – children in Ghana are reading the book Molly the Owl – buy one to donate today if you have extra funds! Spread the love.
