Order your Second Clutch Book

The World's Most Famous Owls...Molly and McGee

Molly’s Blog continues to be one of the leading blog sites on as of this morning it has been viewed 3,049,248 times.

Molly and McGee have been spending time together in The Owl Box but this morning the box is empty. We will have to wait to see if they return tonight. We have not observed any bonding so we think they are taking a break and will not have their fourth clutch at this time. We think that both Molly and McGee are about three years old. We also think their first clutch in The Owl Box was their first. So far they have had three clutches in The Owl Box and have produced 10 healthy owlets. Barn owls average one clutch per year but sometimes have two if the weather is good and there is an abundance of food like here in San Marcos. While Barn owls can live up to 25 years, the average in the wild is only about 2 years. Barn owls also mate for life, but will find a new mate if one dies.

The Second Clutch, The Return of Molly and McGee have arrived and I will be signing them this weekend and all orders will be shipped the following Monday, so start watching your mail boxes. If you haven’t ordered your copy please do so this week so you will get a signed copy.

Austin’s is working hard at finishing his second DVD The World’s Most Famous Barn Owls and hopes to have it available for pre-orders this week. We will let you know as soon as it is available for pre-order. All the money from the sales of his DVD’s goes into his College Fund, his goal is to have it pay for his college education; so far he has made enough for half not including room and board. He hopes his second DVD will pay for the other half.  He has found an apartment within walking distance to Platt College that will be available in two weeks so he will be moving to San Diego in two weeks. This will save him two hours driving time per day.

Start your day with good thoughts and you will have a good day.

All the best,

Carlos, Donna and Austin

    Well done, Austin.
Carlos, want to thank you for the free Patriotic Photo of Molly and the American Flag. I printed out four copies on photo paper, framed them and brought them to our grand daughters block part yesterday. We have three daughters; one for each family and the fourth for the host and hostess of another party we attended. My grand daughter, Emma, woke from her nap and exclaimed when she saw the photo…”that’s Molly”. Thank you for all the joy you bring to my family and so many others.

Mother Nature must be telling them something about the future of prey available and weather conditions for the summer. If only our instincts and connections to the world around us where that good. The same seems to be happening at some of the other barn owl sites in California. I have noticed a difference here in the Midwest with some of our bird species that frequent our feeders. Never a dull moment.

Great news about Austin’s next DVD-can’t wait.

Have safe travels. Always a joy to get your updates.

  3. VSue Says:

I so LOVE seeing the owls. How they snugglez and chortle and deet deet and peep at each other, an occasional screech here and there.
Such sweet music they make together!

Well, they deserve a break after the three busy clutches!
I will miss the watching and waiting for Pip Watch and Egg Hatch watching, then as they emerge from their eggs those adorable bald pterodactyl-looking hatched owlets get their first cotton soft feather fluffs; and then watch as they quickly grow into the lovely heart faced feather filled owls of course.

But watching Molly and McGee shows that even the lovely Barn Owls express such love. They can teach us humans so much!

A second DVD? Well, put my name on the list I certainly will be getting one or a few “depending upon Fun Money” funds.

As for Second Clutch Book, so excited cannot wait until it arrives!

Thank you for keeping us all posted.

Congrats on a blog with such great readership! I’m certainly one of your avid readers, since I’m hooked on M&M and anything else going on in your back yard and your life. Well, we’ve been blessed with seeing M&M for the last several days….so comforting to see them in the box…a feeling of “all’s right with the world”. Perhaps they got bored and wanted a change of scene. I sure would! Hope they come back tonite. It’s probably a good thing that a new clutch doesn’t seem to be on the horizon, now that the intense heat of summer is upon us…might be an added stress to survival for the little ones. Maybe we should set our hopes on seeing some new little owlets in the fall.

    Enjoy this magical, beautiful day!

  6. Donna Says:

I guess my laptop will be getting a rest today, but I will miss them. Looking forward to Austins new DVD, I’m sure it’ll be awesome! People know there’s an owl lover in our house with all the M&M things I have and more on the way! Good wishes to Austin on his new chapter of his life, I’m sure he’ll do great in school. He has a good teacher, his grandfather! Thanks again to all of you for bringing the owl box into our homes!

    Memory Lane
    Molly & McGee
    Second Clutch History

July 6, 2010 – Molly Lays and Egg

We can learn a lot from history – but enjoy the Present! I like watching The Owl Box, even while M&M are out and about, since I know that Molly & McGee are most likely in one of the numerous San Marcos Royal Palm Trees nearby, keeping an eye on their “Home Sweet Home” in the Royal Gardens – we are keeping an eye on it, together (((huggs)))

  9. Lisa A. Burns Says:

All just so wonderful. Thank you Carlos, Donna, and Austin. Have been enjoying The Owl Box like crazy!! : )

  10. PegRod Says:

The Second Clutch Coffee Table Book of Photography by Carlos Royal will bring back so many memories for those who saw it, but it can also educate new people who missed seeing it live – a beauty to behold and to hold in your hands and show off to others!

But if you cannot get one (like those outside of the United States and Canada), and want to relive some of the memories. I posted lots of links in the comments section of an article on msnbc – Owl Cam to Go Dark – it only went dark for a short time – like when an eclipse of the sun or moon takes place – before knowledge people thought it was the end of the world – not the end, but a new beginning!

“When one door closes another door opens, but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.”
    – Alexander Graham Bell

  11. Ruth O'Neil Says:

I think Molly and McGee are having a date DAY today.

  12. Joyce Hebert Says:

sending best wishes to austin and remember: always be true to your dreams and reach for the moon…maybe we can go on a field trip while waiting to see what molly and mcgee will do…thanks jamma

  13. SARose69 Says:

Wishing Austin all the best on his about-to-be move to live more on his own. He’s got a lot going for him so I think he’ll do fine! Am excited about the Second clutch book coming soon to my mailbox and being able to order the new DVD!

  14. PegRod Says:

Tonight – Be at The Owl Box – Cast Your Vote – Spread the Word!

Tonight at 7:30 pm Pacific Time or “Molly Time” – Carlos dropped into chat this afternoon and asked chatters the question, “Who will arrive first to The Owl Box tonight?” Molly or McGee – List your answers here in comments! Who arrives, what time, how long will they stay, etc.!

Also, my Ustream page updated with new features during the day – tune in early to let your page update. Video recordings are easier to find now. If your computer is acting “funny” that is probably why. The internet only works if your computer is updated with the new programs – it is an annoyance, but that is how it works. We have learned more about computers and patience on Ustream!

    • PegRod Says:

      Oh, I get to Vote!

I think McGee will arrive first at 8:50 pm PDT. I think he will stay for about an hour, or until Molly comes next, and then go off hunting. I think both will hang around the box, coming and going, until before dawn, which is at 5:44 am PDT. If he rushes in with a screech – I think that is a warning to another owl to stay out of His “Home Sweet Home”!

Forecast for San Marcos, CA tonight is:

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Low 64F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.
Tomorrow: Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 86F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

  15. Holly Sue Says:

    Hi Carlos!
Molly must have heard a really funny joke – what an adorable laughing face! I hope they had a nice day in the fresh air of a nearby palm tree – it had to be pretty warm in the box. Maybe Molly will be back tonight first about 10pm PDT, hopefully followed soon by McGee with a treat to share. I’m so excited that the second clutch book will be arriving soon – it will be amazing, I know! I look forward to Austin’s DVD as well.
    Love to all, Holly Sue

  16. Carolyn Gooding Says:

Did McGee damage his left foot? In your latest owl box photos, it looks likes he has lost some toes.

Thanks for all you do and keeping us M&M (and Carlos, Donna and Austin) fans up to date.

  17. mandozee Says:

Carlos thanks for the information and letting us watch M&M when you can. But don’t forgo your travels, just post in the Blog like on your last trip, when you can. Mandozee

  18. LoveYourDNA Says:

Bless your hearts now and always!

  19. Carlos, My new coffee table book arrived today. It is just beautiful and brought tears to my eyes remembering the 2nd Clutch. Thank you Carlos,
