Live Broadcast – Field Trip Tonight

June 20, 2011

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again and that is exactly what Austin and I will be doing tonight as we try once again to show you the owl’s hunting grounds. Austin and I are going to be broadcasting live, but this time thanks to some new equipment/batteries that has purchased we will be able to go inside the field and not just broadcast from the edge but from the middle of the field.

Our goal will be to catch an owl as it first leaves its home in a palm tree out in an open field to go hunting for the night. We will be using natural lighting so there will be a very short window of opportunity. We think this will happen around 8:30 PM PST, just as it gets dark. Our plan is to start early around 7 PM PST and with a little luck we will also be able to show you a Red-Shouldered Hawk that also hunts in the field. If we get really lucky we might be able to show you a glimpse of a Gray Fox, a few nights ago while scouting the hunting fields a Gray Fox did come out just as we were leaving but we have not seen him since.

Please let your family and friends know they can see this Live Event -The Field Trip on  . Like I said, this will be live nature so there are no guarantees but we think we have a good chance of showing you a barn owl as it leaves to go hunting for that first treat of the night. You will be watching wild owls not trained owls or pet owls. You will be watching Nature brought to you by The Owl Box on
Time 7:00 PST

Chat & Social Stream will be on!
If you want say Carlos’ favorite saying, “Gee, that was fun and I was part of it.” Join us tonight.

    WooHoo, can’t wait.
Just visited my sister in South Carolina and told her all about M&M. Will pass this on to her, maybe she will check it out. I was thinking about sending them an owl box for their back yard. They live on a lake out in the country and have plenty of room and fields for hunting. Lake Wylie just outside of Charlotte, NC. So pretty up there and I actually got to see RAIN! We are having a terrible drought here in Texas. I feel for all of God’s creatures around here. Praying for rain but carefully, if you know what I mean.

    See ya’ll tonight!

Been enjoying watching Hawks in our back yard in residential Encinitas!! One of the funniest escapades was one of them playing trampoline on a branch that hangs over our greenhouse until he jumped (fell?) off the edge! One of the others (There were three) wandered over to peer over the edge to see what happened.. They remind me so much of the owl siblings.

So glad there is another field trip tonight! I’ll be there.

Just wanted to share this link that was posted on a eagle site I watch.
Very interesting. You will need to “cut & paste”.

An article in the Los Angeles Times about cam watching and the trouble with humanizing wild animals. It mentions our eagle several times and is really very informative. Hope the link works!,0,6047846.story

Exciting surprise broadcast tonight by Carlos Royal and Austin Faure, who captured on live stream many local San Marcos, California wild birds in “the hunting fields” [including a great (or snowy) egret, red-shouldered hawks, kestrels, bluebirds, and night vision views of several common barn owls flying from palm tree, to and from eucalyptus trees, to fence and back] and other creatures (ii.e., a frolicking desert cottontail rabbit, a pocket gopher treat flying off in the talons of a hawk for dinner, and a few people with dogs walking the trails) which have been successfully recorded from the live streaming!

June 20, 2011 – approximately 7 pm Pacific time to about 9 pm
      Field Trip

Carlos also mentioned that he has received his advance copy of the Second Clutch photography coffee table book, and the shipment is on the boat from China – destination San Diego. Only one printing will be made, with books preordered, and just a few hundred copies are still available, so he advises to order right now!

Don’t forget to order bookmarks – they make great inexpensive gifts!
