Owlets Have It Too Good

May 18, 2011

Go Shopping and have some fun!

Owlet with a mouse

No, I am not going to share it.

Like I said, It's mine

I know, I should be ashamed of myself but I'm not. It is an owl thing.

Now, should I leave? No, I don't think so.

Molly and McGee can tweet and the rains can come but the owlets are not leaving. All four were having a ball last night and getting plenty to eat. Remember when McGee starved the first clutch out of the box, not this time. Let’s have a banquet seems to be the motto for this bunch of hangeroners. This Third Clutch is known as the Owletgeneration. In owl time this clutch has already spent 20 years at the owl box. Mcgee called last night and said, “What’s it going to take to get you out of here.” Their response as you can see was, “Let me think about it.”

I didn’t mention it in advance because we didn’t know we were going to do it. We did a broadcast last night on Owlbox2. Mostly it was just testing a camcorder to see if we could live stream with it and it worked. Austin is going to live broadcast a BMX Event this weekend. He needed something better than a webcam. We also wanted to see if we could give you a better view of the owlets flying around the yard. What is interesting is you can not live stream with the new camcorders (at least that was what we were told) without a lot of jury-rigging but my 12 year old Sony camcorder was completely compatible with Ustream. Who would have thought that and it has a 120X zoom feature, just what Austin will need.  If all goes as planned you will be able to watch the BMX contest on Ustream  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/seriesof4  this Saturday. We will post times later.

You have a great day and “we’ll leave the camera on for ya.”

Carlos, Donna and Austin

P.S. If you haven’t already don’t forget to get your Large Framed Print of The Third Clutch, all four owlets.

Sorry I missed the goings-on last night. It sure did sound like fun.Molly and McGee may have to resort to drastic measures–whatever that may be! I don’t know about you but when Molly did her “get away from my owlets” outside that second clutch, I would have sure made a run for Nevada. She can be fierce! she may need to get her “mad” on again to get these kids to move on out.
    Good luck to Austin!

  3. kit Says:

It was great watching last night! We turned on the big laptop at 8 pm PT and watched the owls fly around and finally land at the box. It was so cool! Of course, we watched until the wee hours and now falling asleep at work, but totally worth it! We will tune in to Austin’s broadcast as well. Thanks so much, guys!

  4. Joan from Colorado Says:

Dear Carlos, I think that the only solution is for you to post an eviction notice.. what more can you do? you have already cleaned everything out of their home and they are just a bunch of squatters. it is fun though isn’t it? Joan

  5. mandozee Says:

Two of the girls had the time of there lives all around the the owl box when the wind and the rain started, they spread their wings like glider pilots…jumping around like crazy! Nominations now for the Presidential Citizens Medal for 2011

May 30th Deadline – get out your calendar and start counting down – hmmm 12 days to complete the nomination form for Carlos Royal to be one of many recipients nominated for the Presidential Citizens Medal for 2011. It is an easy form to complete and if you ask someone to help you do it, well then you may make someone else’s day better by letting them know that they are needed!

PegRod Disclaimer: I am an ordinary fan, whose spirit was healed by the Molly the Owl experience, and I only met Carlos Royal once briefly at the first Walnut Grove San Marcos Picnic. I have nothing to gain, but wanted to take this opportunity to be grateful by spreading the word.

Since most of the same fans read the blog, although there are new ones every day, I will not post reminders again until next week. I don’t want to be sent to Bloggers Banned Camp!

    • Janie Says:

I nominated Carlos. He has done so much for the owl community and has changed all of our lives in a good way. He deserves to be recognized. The form is really simple. Just pour out your love for Carlos and the appreciation we feel for having this experience.

    Hi Carlos and Austin.

I watched all four of them around the owl box this morning. I especially liked the practice pouncing and spreading of their wings on top of the owl box. I liked viewing the fly abouts shown on cam 2 early this morning.

    Hello Carlos and Austin.

I watched all four of them this morning around the owl box. I especially enjoyed watching the practice pouncing and spreading of their wings as if soaring through the air on top of the box. I liked the fly abouts shown on cam 2 early this morning also.

  24. Sarah (slewvi) Says:

oh, carlos, this is so wonderful. seeing the owlets and molly and mcgee. thank you so much for this delightful treat. they are so cute. And i loved the inside, outside views of one eating and the other waiting at the door. Kudos!

  25. Andrew Says:

I really enjoyed last night too! Watching the owlets doing their flying manuevers and interacting with each other was great entertainment. There was never a dull moment. I heard expressive screeching and hilarious hissing vocalizations that I’ve never heard before with this clutch. I loved watching to see which one would get the treat and how hard the others would try to steal it. Every once in a while I would hear the parents calling. I turned up the computer volume so I wouldn’t miss a thing and coincidence or not, within a couple of minutes there were two great horned owls in a tree right outside my window. They hooted up a storm for the the next two 1/2 hours competing with the sounds coming from the computer. It was a memorable night for sure. Thanks again to you Carlos, Donna, and Austin for this unexpected gift.

  26. Jo-Ann Says:

Thank you again and again… if we got the barn owl to come in first we can sure get Carlos, and family to win…

I won’t be home Saturday… boo hoo…. maybe I can catch it later when I get home…??? Sure hope so…

  27. Trisha Says:

Carlos, I am watching tonight and noticing how one of them sound so much different from the others. Sort of a chirpy sound. Have you noticed the distict sound difference with any of the other owlets? Its almost parakeet in sound at some points.

Gosh I wonder if they simply are intent on staying! :-)

Thank you as always for enhancing our lives by sharing this.

Ooops, just saw a flash! looking forward to the pics!

  28. joly2u Says:

I hope Austin got film of them in the rain, they were just stunning. One even wrapped his wings around the front of the owbox.

  29. joly2u Says:

Where is the vote for Carlos site? Someone please post the url. Thanks. But I’d rather be voting for him for President.

  30. marie Says:

Sure was fun watching them!! Seemed like it wasn’t even completely dark and they came swooping in to find their spots to hang owlut by the owl box!! Right at 8:00 pm, too!

    May 19, 2010 – First Flight

    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/2010/05/19/first-flight/

The first comment starts, “Your photos are breathtaking Carlos!” There are 21 comments in total, showing that people are not only learning about owls, but learning how to use the internet more, and discovering how to use the blog.

Most chatters said that this was the first time they had ever chatted, and they stayed because of the rules Carlos Royal established, and Magnificent Moderators which made the chat room safe, friendly, educational and fun.
    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/the-owl-box-chat-room-rules/

Since The Owl Box began its broadcast on February 14, 2010, the world viewers have been learning, along with Carlos, about computer hardware, software, the internet, internet etiquette and groups, taking screenshots, and basically overcoming fear of computers and using them!

Many chatters have reported buying newer computers, learning how to use hotel computers when travelling (so as not to miss anything), buying iPhones and iPads to watch on the go, and more!

And some have learned more about copyright laws, migratory bird laws, starting small businesses, poetry, music, art, photography, geography, diplomacy, owl box construction, effects of environmental and household poisons, just to name a few more of the thousands of lessons learned at The Owl Box.

DotRot and gang put together a free Owl Box Lexicon for the new language created to have fun and be more specific in discussing what was observed and learned. Twelve Free Items, including two editions of the Lexicon are on Cafe Press.

This has been an amazing hands-on technological education – “Gee this is fun, and we are a part of it!”

  32. PegRod Says:

I was just looking at one of the earlier recordings from March 17, 2010 – Carlos was doing a Q&A with school children from an elementary school. While he was doing this, with the live video streaming (of course), Molly got up and ate a rabbit treat that McGee had brought the night before (desert cottontail).

    Amazing!

I keep forgetting to remind new people that when you watch these recordings you will notice under each video is a place to click on a star, while you are signed in, to rate the videos – up to 5 Stars – for these amazing one-of-a-kind opportunities. Many viewers don’t know this, so just because a video is not rated, does not mean that it is not loved.

Some beautiful wings shots – notice that the owlets of Clutch One at this date last year still had not lost all their downy fuzzies!

    May 21, 2010 – Austin is Out
    https://mollysbox.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/austin-is-out/

One of the commenters, Carrie Mc, says, “What a pleasure last night was to see Austin’s first leeeaaaaap into the wild. He definitely takes the cake when it comes to first moments out of the box. Now we will wait to see what Wesley has up his sleeve. Lovely pictures.”

Many chatters called Austin “rocketman” for his dramatic first exit out of the box! The Ustream recording is short – I will look for it!

    • PegRod Says:

I think this is the recording – titled “Austin Flys to Landing Pad”:
      http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/7080927/highlight/75178

Each clutch has had different or additional cameras, views, ladders, and construction for The Owl Box, as Carlos Royal has adapted, improved and tested new ways and equipment.

I fell in love with this view – and still love the beautiful colors that came with it at sunset!
