Looking For Someone To Lean On

Looking For Someone To Lean On

I am not a ghost. I have a shaddow.

Could you move to the middle?

Three of Four

I didn’t get to watch much of the antics last night but I did get a few photos early. My favorite of the group is “I looking for someone to lean on.” That is the first time I have seen one of the owlets inside the triangle of the photo-posing ledge. That uniqueness makes it even more special. We are now on day 84 from hatch date, so the count down is on. You could be seeing them for the last time; each night now could be their last night in and around The Owl Box. Clutch One disappeared on day 85 and Clutch Two disappeared on day 86. What day do you pick for these owlets to disappear from the camera’s view?

Austin is also on his count down to high school graduation. Just a few more weeks to go…Yes, he is excited. It looks like he is going to stay local and attend Palomar Junior College first for his general education. He said, his summer project is to do another video on the owls but to make it completely different. He has been doing video taping at night of the owl flying around outside the box. I am like you, can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

Now is the time to pick up extra copies of Molly The Owl, while Eric has it on Sale.  It makes a great gift.   http://mollytheowlbooks.com/

Have a great weekend,

Carlos, Donna and Austin

That one in the triangle is the best! It will be hard to say so long this time just because we have been with them for such a short time compared to the other clutches. Happy almost Graduation Day to Austin! What a terrific young man he is. Here’s to Molly, McGee and all their owlets! It sure has been fun. Maybe there will be an Owl Opus #4?

    Thanks Carlos, Donna and Austin

Well, Carlos, regarding the owlet in the triangle…there is a first time for everything and you know boys…they have to be boys! Now I have another photo to add to my favorites of this clutch. This clutch is by far the most entertaining with their antics and photogenic. Sure gonna miss them in the next few days. If you plan to keep the blog updated, I for one, would love to see photos of your lovely gardens!

Congrats Austin on your almost graduation. I have a few friends who went to Palomar and rave about the school to this day. Best wishes to you, Austin…you have a bright future ahead of you, young man…break a leg!

Congrats Eric on your book “Molly the Owl” being an award finalist! It’s already a winner with me!

  8. NatureLuver Says:

When I watched last night I only saw two owlets and they were going inside the box then flew off….last good look????? Saying farewell to the old homestead???? Tonight will tell. Feeling just a little sad, but know it will pass!

Austin, I’m looking forward to DVD #2 and know it will be awesome. Put me down for two!

Carlos I’m going to miss the owlet photos when they are gone. Wonder how long it will take Molly & McGee to come back for clutch #4? I’m guessing my B-day, May 29th. ;)

Headed to order my second clutch 2 coffee table book! BTW, I gave my friend her copy of Molly The Owl, the coffee table book, book marks and pop up cards this past weekend. She is the one who told me about The Owl Box and is responsible for my MOD! She loved them all and was blown away by the photographs and quality of the coffee table book.

Headed out tomorrow on a birding field trip along the upper Texas coast. Last good weekend for migrants and then a rookery visit at Smith Oaks. Trying to get some photos using my new camera. You are my inspiration Carlos & Donna!

Memory Lane – a look into the past to see into the future – July 6, 2010 – Molly Lays an Egg (Clutch Two) I just love the expression captured on her face!

Each new photograph is as stunning as the last! After things settle down, I hope that Carlos Royal and Eric Blehm reconsider and put a coffee table book together for Clutch Three – If there is a Molly the Owl movie in the future …. well, then ….

I look forward each day to reading all the comments and responses on this blog. So much to learn and to savor – a veritable feast for the eyes, heart, soul and mind.

    • PegRod Says:

PS – If you look at that Memory Lane link, you will see that Molly fans finally learned how to use the blog and to put comments and responses. Look at the full orchestra of delightful feedback!

Am watching the owls at nite and am enjoying them so much.
What a different clutch! Plus I love the titles on the pictures you have added.

  11. Sharon Bevier Says:

You should watch this video of a barn owl and cat playing.

    • Donna Simonson Says:

Love this video! Thank you for sharin’ Sharon!

    • joly2u Says:

Oh, Sharon, this is sweet. Truly, love will find a way.

      • Dee Dee Curry Says:

This video is just awesome. These two must have been raised together, and it appears that the cat really does love the owl. Most unusual friends.

    • GeniaKnitz Says:

Oh, wow that is so beautiful! What fun they both had.

      • PegRod Says:

Sharon, thank you so much for sharing that awesome video here – many cat owners will be reassured of the playfulness, wisdom and love displayed by the common barn owl and black cat, and perhaps that of their own pets!

    • Rita in DC Says:

Thanks so much for sharing that! Amazing! I’d sure like to know how that friendship got started.

    • CAequuslvr Says:

Wow, they are having such fun. Interspecies relationships are always fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing. Also enjoyed the other owl videos that followed.

  12. Donna Simonson Says:

Austin should put a pic of Molly on the top of his graduation hat for all to see! I’m glad he’s staying local for general education classes. We’ll be lookin’ out for a new DVD showcasing all of his technology skill sets and the inherited traits of his grandfather. I love the leaning owl pic, too! I expect a country song could easily be written from that pose. It just speaks volumes of a lost love. (for the owlete, probably thinking of it’s mom, Molly bringing in all those treats with their dad McGee in the good ole days at the owlbox :) Carlos your eyes must dance when seeing all this magic from behind the lense of your camera. I don’t know how you keep a steady hand while all the fun is going on. I love each and every picture of every clutch. I can hardly wait for the 4th clutch. We can only hope!!!
    Love,hugs and prayers owlways,

Your pictures just keep getting better. We appreciate all that you do. Jan in Indiana

  14. joly2u Says:

Carlos, your captions are hilarious, I enjoy them enormously. I’ve seen triangle owls at least a couple times before, and have found it especially charming and screen cap inspirational. Can’t wait for Austin’s video of this clutch–I predict it will be a very special memory. Maybe day 87, keeping the sequence going? But hope for more.

  15. SARose69 Says:

So excited to hear of Austin’s plans! I just watched one of the owlet’s kind of fall into the triangle after duking it out with another for an incoming treat! They seemed to have knocked Molly to the ground when they both rushed in for the treat! Such excitement! I am on tenterhooks about about when their last night in the playground will be.

  16. Rosemary Says:

I am still watching the owlets, and I too look forward to whatever Austin has to offer us. You must be so proud of him… as you should be.

Loved watching the owl get drive by food service tonight, but decided he wanted a table inside the
owl box.. and ate dinner inside….SO CUTE.

Thanks so much for sharing these precious last
    days with our latest owlets.

  17. kpanda Says:

Carlos, Thank you for all of the fun views tonight! M & M’s owlets are just so special and fun! Thanks.

  18. donna Says:

Thank you again Carlos, and good luck to you Austin! I’m looking forward to another DVD and a 4th clutch we hope! Thanks to you all!

  19. GeniaKnitz Says:

So enjoyed a brief look into the owlbox last night with one of the owlets eating a nice fat (gopher?) treat and mugging for the camera. The new dark camera was fantastic inside.
Can’t wait to watch tonight to see if anyone comes back.

  20. PegRod Says:

GeniaKnitz and others reporting on Owl Box activities – Thank you so much! As one of many who cannot watch at night right now, it is such a pleasure to read your comments and visualize.

Memory Lane – May 14, 2010 – The Wait Was Worth It

Beautiful colors, beautiful photographs from a year ago today.

A great photographer spends many hours watching and waiting to get the best shots, like the ones which Carlos Royal shares with us!

  25. Camperfamily (Kim) Says:

Great pictures Carlos! What a fun group they have been! They seem to really enjoy being around your yard! Maybe, they like the camara!
    Hugs to all the chatters!

  26. Cynthia Fitzgearld Says:

Dear Carlos and Donna, the box looks nice and clean carlos, good job. i watched all four owlets lastnight again, cool.
i love watching them.love your site so much.thank you carlosfor letting us watch .i have noticed these owlets dont like to share, like last 2 clutches did.they are selfish, little piggys.but i love them so much.love yas cynthia

  27. Sharon Says:

Love the pics and your sense of humor that always goes with the captions. I do have a question, that has probably been addressed somewhere, sometime. After the other owlets left, and these, do they stay in the area or go elsewhere? Too bad they aren’t banded to track them.

Congrats Austin!!!!! I think that’s a very good idea to stay close to home and get needed courses out of the way locally.
