Close Encounter

Large Frame Print to go with your first edition book

I think John (Vacadude) Atkinson captured what it is like to have a close encounter.

If you purchased one of the first run/printings of Molly The Owl you may want to purchase a Large Framed Print of the cover to go with your book. Who knows, Molly The Owl Book could bring home the Gold.

Cafepress is having a sale Today Only “Take $3 Off orders over $30. Some have been saying that this clutch is staying around longer than the others. Not true, in the First Clutch the owlets fledged, not to return, on day 85 from the hatch date and in the Second Clutch the owlets fledged, not to return, on day 86 from the hatch date so according to my calculations we have a few more days to go. We are on day 83 from the hatch date. What we have seen is this Third Clutch has spent more time in and around our backyard so they may hang around a little longer but if you remember Molly and McGee actually ran the owlets off when they tried to return to The Owl Box.

The next two or three nights should be very interesting to watch. Will Molly and Mcgee run them off or will they just leave or will they continue to hang around?

Have a great day.

Carlos, Donna and Austin

Owlets are just like human kids. They don’t want to leave the comfort and security of their home! It’s a good lesson for we humans about our kids: To Have, To Hold, and then Let Go. Thanks Carlos for sharing this clutch with us, and for the beautiful photos. Do you realize you could be a professional photographer? Thanks again to you, Donna and our cutie pie Austin!

I agree Carlos and Donna are so wasting their talents, but we get the best of it! Thank you Carlos and Donna!

It’s been so fun to watch the owlets and M&M. I’ll miss them when they leave. But maybe I can get a few full nights of sleep and give my place a good cleaning LOL. Love all the MODS and Carlos, Donna and Austin. mandozee

You’d better hurry with the house cleaning, there will most likely be another clutch around the bend! :)

Excellent cartoon! And thank you again for leaving the camera on so we can watch the owl family interact with each other. It was so funny last night when one owlet took its treat into the box to eat in peace and two more showed up, squawking, without realizing their sibling was chowing down inside. I wish I could stay up later to watch them. Thanks for sending so many great still pictures.

What a wonderful cartoon of you and an owlet.
I would surely want to get a close encounter too; although I know they are wild and are not the soft cuddle type with those talons and sharp beaks! They sure look sweet as can be and I too enjoy the watching them, especially on the nights when my cats decide to wake me up to play chase across and over the bed!

Thank you again for the sharing and turning the machines back on so I can get my MOD fix!

  7. Diana Says:

I heard a coyote this early am. Sure wish I could “chat”. The camera’s you have now are awesome. Also did you cut down the Mimosa tree? Lets see what else can I babble about? Guess that’s all. Have a great day!

Loved John’s cartoon. What would we do without him along for this glorious ride.

Vaca has that knack too for capturing the moment…brilliant Vaca! The mural is stunning…how breathtaking a barn owl is in flight! So that’s what that sound was I heard…coyote…yikes! Can you tell I never heard one before? The color night cam is a beaut! Thank you for sharing some very entertaining nights. Will miss the owlets, but know they must go. Curious to see if they are run off and Molly claims the box as she did before.

  11. Marcia Morrison Says:

Thanks again for the update, Carlos! I’m so happy to hear that this clutch has made it to happy, healthy adults.

And I am still loving your photos of the owls.

Best wishes, Marcia Morrison in Salem, Massachusetts

  12. Once again, Vacadude sure knows how to capture a fun moment! I would give anything to be able to get that close to a Barn Owl, especially if it was Molly, Macgee or their kidz. They surely have put their trust in you Carlos since they see you all the time and know you are not a threat to them. After all, you are their landlord / producer….lol. Love it!

May 12, 2010 – Molly and McGee – look how young they looked last year as new parents (I guess we all looked younger last year, too!)

May 13, 2010 – I Want to Fly – last year this time, another great group of photos of Molly and McGee caring for the First Clutch – and some daytime photos!

Aren’t we a lucky bunch, that can say with conviction, “Gee this is fun, and we are a part of it!”

  17. SARose69 Says:

Vacadude’s newest cartoon is terrific! I have loved this time with the 3rd clutch! So sad it will end soon, but hopeful that M&M will “get busy!”

  18. Jim Shoemaker Says:

Great cartoon. I laughed out loud Wednesday night as the owlet, who had received the very large treat, took his treat to the owl box door way and looked around as if he were in the wrong place. His room had been cleaned and he didn’t know what to do. Very funny creatures. Thanks Carlos and Donna and Austin.

  19. Robin Balko Says:

    Cute Carlos,very cute!!!

  20. Cynthia Paquin Says:

Great cartoon (as always)! I have to admit – I’m a little jealous of those owl pajamas! :)

  21. Darlene Olson Says:

Thank you so much, Carlos, for broadcasting the third clutch! It has been so much fun to watch them play and pounce. I can’t believe how much like Molly & McGee two of the owlets look!
Do you still see Tauntz? We would like an update on that, please!
    Thank you!
