Carlos and Lucy (Coach)

Carlos Signing Books

Remember “Coach” in the chat room from Japan that did all the cool photo collages. Well, to my surprise she showed up to help at the book signing. She is on vacation and visiting her family here so she dropped by to help.

I want to thank everyone that showed up to help with the book signing, packaging, labeling and shipping of the books. I think there were about 15 of us that with the help of coffee, cookies, sandwiches and cheese cake, we got the job done. Of course, special thanks go to Janet and her mom because we used their home and garage. Eric used the excuse of “having a baby” to not show up. They named the baby girl Callia Jamison Blehm. All the best to the Blehm family.
Egg Count: It has been posted in the comments that there are now 25 eggs and counting. By the way did you see the commercial for the Winter X-Games (Shaun White and Gretchen Bleiler) where they used two barn owls (they called them snow owls).

The Barn Owl is definately the Bird Of The Year!
DVD Sales: Austin now needs less than 150 to reach his goal. Click the link to purchase Molly’s Story, a documentary DVD

How nice to see Lucy (Coach) in person with you Carlos! I’m so glad there are folks available to help with a job that would be overwhelming if faced alone. Yes, Carlos, eggs are popping out all over. I am moderating at Jill’s site with Willow (8 eggs) and her mate Beargrylls. I am having fun seeing all the returning chatters and even more fun meeting new folks for all over the world. Someone from Romania dropped in to chat. These owls are bringing the world together. Thanks to you, and Donna, I have friends all over the U.S. now – hope you are feeling better now. Deet Deet Deet, from couleedam

How wonderful Coach was able to meet you and at the same time lend a hand…whadda gal! Just as great are the others who helped in the sending of those fantastic books. Pretty name the Blehm’s selected for their new bundle of love and joy…not sure how it’s pronounced though. Yes, the barn owl is the bird of the year, yet it seems there are some who need to learn not to confuse two male barn owls with snow owls. Glad I know the difference and gee it was fun and I’m so glad I was part of it. Go Austin Go…you will reach your goal! Happy learning and studying…make us all proud, especially your grandpa and grandma!

  3. barb deihl Says:

Yeah, it sure is the Year of the Barn Owl, but lots of people get them mixed up with Snowy Owls and “Barred” (like saying “Barn” with a stuffed-up nose!). In fact, in these winter games videos, the “hoots” are not from the Barn Owls shown, but rather from some other kind of owl that does “hoot” (maybe a Great Horned Owl or a Barred Owl or…?) I hope that “Legend of the Guardians” and this sort of ad isn’t ever billed as “Reality Owlishness”!

  4. cherry daniel Says:

Congrats to all the book signing helpers. I sure miss the chat and M & M “family”. I even put on my shirt from the picnic today!

  5. SARose69 Says:

Snow owls!! Good grief! Oh, well! They are beautiful by any name!

  6. donna Says:

Carlos how nice to see your smiling face and nice people to help you with the books. I see you have the Molly shirt on, you look great!! I hope one of those books is mine! Take Care

  7. GeniaKnitz Says:

And you (with a little help from Molly & McGee) started the whole thing rolling! Thanks, Carlos.

  8. rosiebud Says:

    I miss you!!

  9. DianaJoe Says:

So nice to see your smiling face, Carlos.

  10. Suzie2 Says:

Did you see the January Audubon California News e-mail, Carlos?
I had a chuckle over the wording :-).
I copied a couple of sentences:

“After nearly 20,000 votes, the Barn Owl was named Audubon California’s Bird of the Year in December. And it wasn’t even close — the bird received more than 70 percent of the votes. Even more remarkable was the fact that the Barn Owl wasn’t one of the six nominated birds. It was a write-in. Nonetheless, it’s a great choice.”

I hope you are well and enjoying your time. Great to see Coach!!

    • Anita Says:

I also had to laugh at the email from Audubon California. We all know that it was the Molly Nation that put “barn owl” over the top! Audubon California also knows! They certainly beat around the bush in their write up. Go Molly!

  11. Madonna Varchetto-Bonner Says:

Boy Carlos, so nice to see that smile! Has to be a lot of work signing all those books…but we really appreciated it. We really appreciate the pics thanks for sharing with us! Miss Molly and Mcgee, you, Donna and Austin so much. Love and warm wishes, Madonna

  15. Bonita Lyon Says:

PS. My first reaction was…”How great to see Carlos and his smile again” Bonnibell

  16. Shu Says:

Now for a man who has been ill you sure look healthy with your arm around Coach and that big wonderful smile! Somehow I missed the fact that Coach was a female…what a nice surprise. Guess I was not in room on her schedule much but did enjoy her work.
I love the baby’s name….someone should do a journal of the times before her arrival to be passed down. Please keep in touch!! shu

    • carlosroyal Says:

What you can not see is a big box of Kleenex on the floor next to me. As far as Coach being female, I think a lot of people missed that fact because they assumed the stereo association of the word as male gender, which is just not true in today’s world.

  17. Darlene Salisbury Says:

What a pleasure to see you Carlos. I am looking forward to getting my book in the next few days. I hope you have completely recovered from your illness. Thank you once again for the gift that keeps on giving. From all of us at SPO, take care and continue to keep in touch. What a pleasure and a surprise it would be in you popped in over at SPO to say hi.That would be cool!!
Congratulations to Eric and his wife on their new baby girl.
    With a grateful heart.

  18. Twoclubs Jane Says:

Coach and Carlos and all the helpers behind the scene are doing their best to get those beautiful books out to us. Thank you all. Wish I lived closer to help. And those commercials – we hoo know better can only laugh. Hearts Everybody.

  19. muttsfan Says:

It is great to be able to put a face to another OB companion – nice to see you Coach, sure miss you in the mornings! Thanks to you all for your hard book-signing work – I (almost) can’t wait to see the photos – have a box of Kleenex ready. <3 to all!

  20. Lisa Sharp Says:

I DID see that commercial! And when they said they were snow owls I startd yelling at the TV “THOSE ARE BARN OWLS!” :) Thanks for the education, Carlos and Donna! A whole new world has been opened to me and my family!

  21. Linda Greene Says:

Carlos, I did see that commercial and sneered “That’s not a snow owl”. Thanks to you, I might never had paid any attention. Great pic of you and Coach! Eric, love your baby’s name!
Thanks for all the hard work. Stay well.

  24. Gabrielle in Houston Says:

Oh Carlos, I just got my book in the mail! I don’t even know how to begin to tell you how much I love it. You and Eric did a WONDERFUL job. I think my favorite photo, or at least the one that made me laugh out loud, is of Wet McGee! By the end, I was (still am) misty eyed. You and Donna and Austin didn’t just broadcast an owl box, you brought into being a whole family, not just of nature lovers, but people who could celebrate the circle of life together. I’ve said it before, but the owl box would not have been the same without you and Donna. Thank you Austin for sharing your wonderful grandparents with us, and thank you Eric for putting that incredible experience, those wonderful memories, into a tangible form. God bless us every one, and GEE, that was fun and I was part of it!!!

  25. Selena Says:

Golly Carlos it’s great to see you again! That must have been quite a weekend and thank you for your dedication to all your fans! Looking forward to the book and will treasure it always!

    thank you again!

  26. June Schafer Says:

  30. Laurie Says:

I just received my copy of the coffee table book. Carlos, your photography is breathtaking, especially the beautiful close-ups of “our” amazing owls. What a touching, heart-warming opportunity to re-live the excitement and wonder of Molly & McGee entering out world a year ago. Happy Anniversary to them, and a million thanks to you for sharing them with us. Best wishes to you, Donna and Austin always.

  31. Anita Says:

Carlos, I received my coffee table book this weekend and I must say that it is simply gorgeous. Kudos to you and Eric on the compilation of such a beautiful book. I hadn’t seen most of these photos as I started following M&M during the hatching of their 2nd clutch. The ordering of the photos within the book, down to the captions of the photos, make this book one that I will treasure. I particularly love the portraits section of the book. One can actually see the diverse personalities of Molly and McGee & their owlets. The reference to the 2nd Clutch book is very clever and witty (“but that’s another story”) and I eagerly await my copy.

  32. Beth Jones Says:

Happy Birthday Carlos. No one could possibly give you a gift even close to the gift you and Donna gave us. Wishing you many, many more happy years.

  33. finnwv Says:

Happy Birthday Carlos! Thanks for the most wonderful gift of Molly and McGee and the joy and wonder it has brought to so many others! As Beth said there is no gift greater than the love you and Donna have shown through your efforts! Best wishes for a wonderful day and many wonderful years ahead!

  36. Diane Ballou (drsballou) Says:

The year of the owl. Not just for the world, but for me personally. M&M and the owlets have helped me though one of toughest year of my life, surely the toughest with illness and injury.

I will never forget the joys of this year though. The owls, the friends I made. The happiness brought to me through my computer.

    Thank you.
